A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a maroon Greek cross charged with a central gold disc bearing a Korean Taeguk (scarlet at the top, blue in base) encircled by a green wreath extending over the disc consisting of an olive branch on the left and oak on the right, and in back of the cross white rays issuing from the center terminated by a four-fold scarlet scroll arched over the top arm of the cross inscribed "MEDICAL CARE" looped at the sides under the horizontal arms, and reversely arched below the lower arm and inscribed "ANYWHERE," all letters gold.
Maroon and white are colors used for the Army Medical Department. The Korean Taeguk (from the flag of the Republic of Korea) together with the scarlet scroll commemorates the Hospital's Korean campaign service for which it received the Meritorious Unit Citation. The wreath of olive and oak signifies the unit's campaign service in Italy during World War II. The Greek cross is identified with medical services and the white rays denote the radiant healing capabilities of the unit; together they additionally allude to the Hospital's motto.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 13 May 1970.
